First time visiting here. I’m from the bronx but came to Brooklyn to see family. So I stopped in here with my aunt for some breakfast. The service was good and we were greeted by everyone in the restaurant. The food came out pretty quick. The pancakes were the best I’ve had at an establishment in a very long time, they were soft and very flavorful. I ordered. Pancakes, eggs, bacon and Grits. When I got my grits as they came out last they had hair in it. That kind of messed up the whole meal. They took it off the bill but you have to pay attention when you are cooking and presenting food in a restaurant.
Tom’s Restaurant offers the classic diner experience that many of us look for: quick, flavorful meals served in a warm and welcoming environment. The food is consistently tasty, whether you’re grabbing breakfast, lunch, or dinner. A couple of standout items include their French toast, which is absolutely amazing, especially with the strawberry and pumpkin butters—they add a delightful twist that you won’t find at most diners. Another must-try is their sweet potato fries, which pair perfectly with the chipotle sauce for an irresistible combination of sweet and spicy. The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure your coffee cup is always full and that your meal arrives promptly. The retro vibe adds a touch of nostalgia that makes each visit feel like a step back in time. However, one thing that prevents me from giving a higher rating is the fact that they only accept cash. In an era where card payments and digital wallets are the norm, it can be inconvenient to have to remember to carry cash specifically for this place. It would be great if they could adapt to more modern payment methods. Despite this, if you’re prepared with cash, Tom’s Restaurant is a solid choice for a quick and satisfying meal.
An authentic, old school diner with friendly service. The crab cakes came out a little too salty for my liking but the pancakes and fries were top 10/10. Will come back!
