Osteria Brooklyn is a hidden gem that captures the essence of old-school Italian dining right in the heart of Brooklyn. The restaurant exudes an authentic Italian ambiance, reminiscent of Little Italy, with its cozy, rustic decor and warm, inviting atmosphere. The food is exceptional, featuring classic Italian dishes prepared with a modern twist, perfect for a family-style dinner. Each plate is crafted with care, offering rich flavors that make you feel like you’re dining in a small Italian village. The staff is incredibly attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience from start to finish. Osteria Brooklyn is the perfect spot for a delightful meal that transports you straight to Italy without leaving Brooklyn.
The vibe and the staff are wonderful, but the food is pretty mid and extremely overpriced for sure. $42 for a weak caraf of aperol spritz is not okay. I will say the server we had was nice, she brought out a little bowl of water for my little panting dog (he gets very anxious) so that was much appreciated, 25% tip for you kind lady. But, there are other places in the area with better food for the price.
We arrived at an awkward time between lunch and dinner. I had intended on trying the prefix lunch which was advertised conspicuously on the sidewalk (with a large fold out sign) between the entrance and a nicely maintained outdoor seating area. When we arrived at approximately 3:35 pm, the restaurant was empty inside. I ordered the lunch special, however the waitress very politely refused to honor my request because it was 5 mins past the end of lunch (slightly disappointing). We chose to try the oxtail pappardelle, the lobster risotto and the fried cauliflower milanese. The major surprise was the complimentary and excellent hot bread with tomato dip. We ordered an extra portion it was so good. The entrees were both good to very good, I especially recommend the risotto (very good). The value for the standard portion size was also fine. Overall the meal was very good and you got what you paid for, but the only extraordinary element of the meal was the bread!
